From the historic charm to the nautical roots, Annapolis quickly became one of my favorite coastal towns during our visit last fall.
Tyler grew up spending time here with his grandparents so it has always held a special place in his heart and he was excited to share it with me. We were able to plan a trip together with his grandparents who have since moved to South Carolina. We spent a long weekend wandering around these historic streets with them and reminiscing in their family memories.
We had the most perfect early fall weather in September where it was chilly enough to be comfortable in a sweater — my favorite weather. The downtown area is quaint and historic and worth spending time meandering around the cobblestone and brick streets.
Since the Naval Academy located within walking distance of town, midshipmen in uniforms are everywhere. I was enamored with the uniforms and the sense of prestige you felt as soon as you stepped within the grounds of the Academy. We have family ties with the Navy as Tyler’s little brother is in the Corp of Cadets for Virginia Tech and my little brother is a Naval Flight Officer in Pensacola.
We were able to go to church at the US Naval Academy Chapel and at the end of each service on Sunday the congregation along with the midshipmen sing, “Eternal Father, Strong to Save.”
We ended our trip with the one thing you have to do… picking Blue Crabs. I grew up picking crabs with my Grandmom and Granddad Jones as they were from Northern Virginia. If you are lucky enough to get a waterside table at Mike’s Crab House like we were ( thanks PopPop) I highly recommend getting the crab balls and potato wedges alongside your bushel of crabs.
