A few weeks ago I was able to travel with Tyler to the Dominican Republic for a long weekend before the start of his dental mission trip in Santiago de los Caballeros. We stayed at a quaint, sustainability focused 16 room hotel on the north side of the island near a popular local surf beach. El Encuentro Surf Lodge was truly above anything I had expected.
One of my goals for this year is to challenge myself creatively and further develop my photography skills — what better way to accomplish both of these than through shooting film. I have been enamored with film for quite a while having worked for Emily March when she was transitioning to shooting film and choosing a film photography team for our own wedding.
The lack of affirmation from each shot, which you get from digital, made me pause from pursuing it. However, I am here to confirm that with each click of the shutter and the anticipation of waiting for the scans… I am obsessed.
Film: Kodak Portra 400
