Well… this is a post I never wanted to write. We are officially starting the TPLO journey for #newfiecaswell. After doing quite a bit of research, I have found that there is not a lot of information out there about the recovery from TPLO surgery for a giant Newfoundland dog. Luckily my Caswell is on the small side, topping the scales at 106 lbs compared to her 150-175 lb newfie friends.
Caswell has had her fair share of health issues, to say the least. Purchasing Embrace Pet Insurance (not a sponsored post, just love them) when she was a puppy was hands down one of the best things I have EVER purchased. But her knees (and hips) have been the biggest challenge for her with patellar luxation and hip dysplasia. If you have a pet and do not have pet insurance, drop what you are doing and get a quote from them! It is 100% worth every penny.
My girl is at the orthopedic surgeon for a TPLO, tibial-plateau-leveling osteotomy, surgery today… Over the next few weeks I will be detailing her recovery progress on here so that other newfie or large breed owners can see the process and progress. Friends, I would LOVE your prayers for her today. I do not get to pick her up until tomorrow morning so please also pray for me, I’m going to need to be sedated y’all…
