The same weekend we visited the church ruins of Brunswick Town we were able to tour the iconic Cape Fear House in downtown Southport. This house sits facing the mouth of the Cape Fear and the Atlantic Ocean. To the right you can see Oak Island Light and Fort Caswell and to the left stands Old Baldy of Bald Head Island.
The Cape Fear House also known as the, “T.M. Thompson House, circa 1868, was the home of legendary river pilot and blockade-runner Captain Thomas Mann Thompson. This is the only house in Southport with a Widow’s Walk and a cupola.”
This historic home is one block from the Yacht Basin where our family’s favorite Provision Company is located. My parents had always dreamed of renting this house for some sort of family gathering so as soon as we decided on Southport for our wedding they jumped at the opportunity to rent this stunning home from the sweet family who owns it.
We spent our wedding weekend enjoying this home as much as we could and sharing it with family and friends. Most of our slower time was spent on the beautiful porches in rocking chairs looking out over the incredible waterfront view. From morning coffee to afternoon lunch, we were able to slow down take the time to enjoy our surrounding amidst the busyness of a wedding weekend.

The following images are ones I have taken on my phone during some of our many visits to Southport while wedding planning. The Cape Fear House is just as beautiful on the inside as it is on the outside. I fell in love with the antique runner in the front hallway as well as many other charming details.
The incredible side yard of the house is where the Hills hosted our Rehearsal Dinner and where we held the Welcome Event following the dinner. (I will be sharing pictures from our rehearsal and welcome event soon.) The Hill’s rented a place one house down from the Cape Fear House and it is also a beautiful historic home called the Corlette House. I loved being able to run between the two houses and visit with each family during our stay.
Being able to stay right downtown on the water was the absolute perfect location. The Cape Fear House will always hold a special place in my heart as it is where we had our rehearsal dinner, where I got ready on my wedding day with my mom, sister, and closest girls, where I saw my dad in my wedding dress, where Tyler and I had our first look, and where we took the majority of our pictures prior to the ceremony. I look forward to the many years to come of visiting this beautiful, special home.
