If only I had a screen grab video of how.many.different. versions I created of our invitation suite… Being a designer by day and having made dozens of invitation suites at my past job for an event planner, I wanted this suite to be as unique to my style and to our wedding as possible. Designing our invitation suite was both incredibly challenging and one of my favorite parts of wedding planning.
Once I decided on the overall design and color palette, I began envisioning each different piece of our suite — how each card would look in a lay-flat design as well as stacked in an envelope. We had an A7 invitation card, an A6 map card, a 4Bar info card, a business card sized address card, and a 3″ square details card.
I have always loved vintage stamps and was thrilled to find a set with a Newfoundland for the envelope for the photographer. The address so beautifully hand written by my talented friend Sidney Hunter, on the envelope is to the Caswell Beach house my family grew up going to with my late grandparents.
Both of our families contributed to our wedding day so we went with less formal wording on our invitation and rather than having an RSVP card, we asked our guests to respond through our wedding website which also cut down of the cost of another envelope and stamp.
I had always dreamed of having a wax seal on our suite and even though it took a decent amount of work, it was a noticed special touch and I truly enjoyed stamping each envelope for our guests.
We included a small business card sized card with the directions for the ceremony and reception as tucking that card in a wallet or clutch is much easier than folding an invitation or reception card or both.
Another detail I knew I wanted to include was a map of Southport with special to us places. I attempted drawing this but being so close to it I had a difficult time not keeping it to exact scale. I ended up getting in touch with the talented Erin of Fresh Cut Prints who did an incredible job drawing a town so near and dear to my heart.
I truly love how our invitations turned out and am so glad I made our own. My Aunt gifted me a very special framed invitation from a shop my Grandmom used to use and I plan on finely shredding one to fill a clear ornament as well.
